Electrical Monitoring

The PULSE Series™ is the Industrial Matrix family of electrical monitoring sensors: a Current Sensor, an Infrared Sensor, an Airborne Ultrasound Sensor, and a Temp & Humidity Sensor. Together they deliver four-domain electrical sensing that reveals faults no single measurement can detect on its own - feeding MatrixHub™ and the closed-loop reliability ecosystem.

Electrical panel monitoring is continuous surveillance of live electrical assets - panels, motor terminal boxes, and cabinet environments - using permanently mounted sensors instead of periodic thermography. Thermal faults are current-dependent, so 24/7 coverage under real load catches what annual scans miss.

Corona, arcing, tracking, and partial discharge emit ultrasonic energy into the air before they become visible or catastrophic. The PULSE™ Airborne Sensor detects this 20–100 dBμV RMS ultrasound continuously inside the enclosure - electrical faults heard at their earliest stage.

Infrared thermography surveys are typically run once or twice a year by a technician walking the plant with a camera. The reading captures one moment at one load — and a loose lug that looks normal at 30% load can run dangerously hot at peak production, so a survey can pass an asset that is already failing. Continuous monitoring leaves sensors permanently mounted inside the panel, trending current, temperature, ultrasound, and cabinet climate every day across every load condition. The fault is caught when it develops, not at the next scheduled walk-through.

Partial discharge is a small electrical breakdown that occurs across part of an insulation gap without bridging it completely — the earliest stage of insulation failure in switchgear, cables, and motor windings. It emits ultrasonic energy into the air before it produces heat or any visible damage, which is why airborne ultrasound detects it earlier than infrared. Left alone, partial discharge erodes insulation progressively until it becomes a flashover or a winding failure.

Most panel overheating traces back to a loose or corroded connection, an unbalanced load across phases, or harmonic distortion from variable frequency drives and switching power supplies. Each raises resistance or current where the design did not account for it, and the heat degrades insulation and terminations over time. The PULSE Series™ measures current, infrared surface temperature, airborne ultrasound, and cabinet climate together, so an overheating connection is identified along with the electrical cause behind it rather than as a temperature reading alone.
